Adams Morgan
Farmers' Market (updated

)
The
farmers' market at the corner of 18th St. and Columbia Road NW in Adams Morgan
(Washington, DC) has been operating since 1973, when Jim Crawford (New
Morning Farm) began selling produce in an empty gravel lot where the
SunTrust Bank now stands. Before that, the corner was home to a theater where
Jimi Hendrix played a three-night gig in 1967 and Norman Mailer made a fool of himself as MC for a rally for the March on the Pentagon. Before that, it was the Ambassador Theater, site of DC's worst public disaster, where in the '30s on a snowy winter Saturday hundreds of folks were watching the motion pictures during a storm, when the roof collapsed from the weight of snow, killing hundreds.
The cast of vendors at the market has changed over the years, and
currently includes Mike Tabor's Licking Creek Bend Farm, Remie's flower stand,
and Star Hollow Farm. Ironically both vegetable stands are from adjoining Pennsylvania counties.
The "regular" outdoor Adams Morgan Farmers' Market (see Digital
City's listing) runs nine months out of the year, from the first
Saturday in April through the Saturday before Christmas, with Thanksgiving
Saturday off (at least for our farm). We open at 8 AM and run until about 1 PM. The busiest times of day are from about 9 until 11 am, and Fall is usually
the busiest time of the year, as we have the widest selection of produce.
In the winter, when Star Hollow is just handing out online orders and CSA boxes, and selling a little bit off the table by the truck, the hours are different: 10 AM until 1 PM.

Farm is the middle stand of three. Click on either of the two maps to see a
