Star Hollow Farm
Adams Morgan FARM MARKET & CSA

notes for the week of
Saturday, December 1, 2018

Hello all!

Our remaining schedule and perspective...

  • We will be there for you the first 3 Saturdays of the month (12/1, 12/8, 12/15), and that's it then.
  • In case you were wondering whether we cared or not if you continue ordering from us at this point, I can say that we most certainly do, and we really appreciate your orders.

On the farm
We had a great Thanksgiving, with many family members here and a new baby to gawk over. Welcome to this world, Eleanor!

This is my 98-year-old mama with her 4-week-old GGGranddaughter. I'd say they're pretty happy to meet.

It was also nice to have a few days of "down time" after our six-month sprint called market season. Last Saturday was my first Saturday off since spring!

[photo] There have been some spectacular skies lately, both here and in your neck of the woods. This was several afternoons ago.

This week's produce will include... (new or back in green)

  • Greens: arugula, cabbage, chard, cress, kale, lettuce, microgreens, pea & sunflower shoots, our stir-fry mix.
  • Veggies: dry beans, beets, carrots, cauliflower, hothouse cucumbers, garlic, horseradish, onions, parsnips, potatoes, radishes, shallots, sunchokes (plus the pickle pack), sweet potatoes, our seconds roasted roots pack & winter squashes.
  • Herbs: chives, cilantro, mint, parsley & sorrel.
  • Apples: "Apple-a-Day" pack, Fuji, Granny Smith, Jonathan, Pink Lady, Rome, Stayman Winesap, York Imperial and discounted "seconds."
  • Eggs & Cheese: eggs, cow & goat cheese.
  • Miscellany: cider & honey.

Hope there's something on that list for you! Have a great evening and we hope to see you Saturday.

Thanks for your support this year and always,
Randy, Chris & Sam

[photo] We've got a lot of sunchokes now, and were looking for new ways to use them. On the left are the sunchokes I grated in a minute and sauteed in butter for two or three more minutes before starting my eggs. Dang, they were good! I guess you'ld call them faux hash-browns done this way.

[photo] And as Christmas is approaching, I thought I'd share this year's tree. Yes, more sunchokes, and this came out of the ground as one piece! Crazy. It's about 8-inches tall and weighs 2 pounds. We'll save decoration for closer to the holiday :)
