Hello all!

[photo] The cat has found that, on cold days, the kitchen window is somewhat warmed by the stove inside. How she can sit on a window frame three inches wide, I don't know.

Our schedule remains the same, every-other-week ...
but people ask every week, so I'll just post it here every week!

  • Feb: 3 & 17
  • Mar: 3, 17 & 31
  • and April and May when we get there

[photo] The cold doesn't seem to bother our 100 or so laying hens, but the short days and lack of light definitely affect their egg-laying. We're down to about 1/2 the number of eggs that we have chickens now (whereas in the summer they lay at about 95% per day. Thus we've supplemented with the Byers eggs, and even added some duck eggs from the Martins. Just for fun!

Missed orders
It is a very common occurrence that people place an order during the week and then can't come for it for some reason or just plain forget. We understand; things happen. But it is important that you know what to do if you are one of those people!

We've tried many, many options over the 14 years we've been doing this, and the only one that works for us is what we've done for the last 5 or so years.

Email us within 3 days and tell us you want it back! Otherwise we consider it abandoned, which unfortunately is what happens with over half the unclaimed orders we haul back home Saturday afternoons.

The weather is still having a major affect on our own greens, even though we have had some sunny days. Fortunately for us, and you, some of the farmers we work with either have better cold frames, warmer temps, (or are better farmers) and so greens numbers are up this week. Herbs, too. Have at 'em!

This week's produce ... (new or back, on sale!)

  • Greens: arugula, cabbage, chard, cress, kale, Bibb lettuce, microgreens, mustard greens, pea shoots & baby spinach.
  • Veggies: dried Lima beans, beets, carrots (orange & purple) & our roasted carrot & potato kit, celeriac, hothouse cucumbers, garlic, horseradish, Jerusalem artichokes, kohlrabi, onions, parsnips (& soup kit), cayenne peppers!, potatoes (4 kinds), winter radishes (3 kinds), plus our banh mi slaw kit using our radishes, roasted roots pack, rutabagas(we know you've been eagerly awaiting these!), shallots, sweet potatoes, turnips (& soup kit) & winter squashes.
  • Herbs: cilantro, parsley, rosemary & sage.
  • Tree fruit: apples (5 kinds).
  • Eggs & Cheeses: Duck eggs... give 'em a try if you haven't ever had them. I think they're great!
  • Preserves: The usual, and some are on sale!
  • Firewood

Hope you have a good week and that we see you on Saturday.

Thanks for your support,
Randy, Chris & Sam

The chairs up at the pond haven't seen much activity from us lately. The pond's been frozen most of the month. We used to skate on it when the kids were little, but honestly I don't even know if we still have skates around anymore. Somehow sitting beside the woodstove strikes me as more appealing these days. Go figure!
