This is the time to order for your Thanksgiving dinners; we won't be down again until December!

Hello all!

Our remaining schedule for Adams Morgan is...

  • November, 11/17 (now!) and then we take Thanksgiving Saturday off.
  • December, we will be there for you the first 3 Saturdays of the month (12/1, 12/8, 12/15), and that's it. Four more chances to order.

Fall feels like it's passed into winter already. Driving to DC last Saturday it snowed for the first 20 minutes. Thursday and Friday of this week they're calling for rain, sleet and snow, while I need to drive out to pick up apples and a few other produce items. I can hardly wait!

On the farm
There's plenty to do, much of it not especially fun now. As soon as it got cold outside the mice moved into our heated greenhouse and have made a mess of things, including eating an entire week's crop of pea shoots and microgreens. (And they left a mess to boot.) The inflation motor that gives a layer of insulation between the two layers of greenhouse plastic burnt out, and I need to re-wire the new one I bought, but there always seems to be something more important on my list. And I never did get any firewood cut or chopped this summer, for sale to you or even for our own use in the house. Sometimes time just slips away. Ain't it funny?

[photo] A few of you will be able to identify this location. (Skateboarders in the fountains at Meridian Hill Park.) Tired as I was after market last Saturday, I guess it's starting to settle in how close we are to the end of our time in DC, so I went for a walk. I will miss it.

This week's produce will include... (new or back in green)

  • Greens: arugula, cabbage, chard, dandelion greens, kale, lettuce (2), pea shoots, spinach & our stir-fry mix.
  • Veggies: beets, carrots, cauliflower, celeriac, garlic, horseradish, mushrooms (blue oyster & shiitake), onions, parsnips, green cayenne peppers, potatoes (5), radishes (2), Bahn Mi Slaw kit, shallots, our sorrel soup pack, sunchokes (plus the pickle pack), sweet potatoes & winter squashes (5).
  • Herbs: dill, lemongrass, mint, parsley, rosemary, sage & sorrel.
  • Apples: Fuji, Granny Smith, Jonathan, Mutsu/Crispin, Pink Lady, Rome, Stayman Winesap & York Imperial.
  • Eggs & Cheese: eggs, plus cow & goat cheese.
  • Miscellany: cider & honey.
