Hello all,

Many people ask if things are winding up now and finally slowing down for us on the farm. I guess the 'peak' season is past now, but there is still lots of produce in the field and a tremendous amount of work to clean up crop areas as they finish and put things in the fields 'to sleep' for the winter. The fact that we market all winter means that, in fact, we are actively planting new winter crops in the high tunnels and greenhouse, as well as tending the cold-hardy crops that are still out there sizing up for harvest (think root crops like turnips, radishes, sunchokes, beets and more).

[photo] Sam's been busy swapping out some of the summer greens for winter ones in the high tunnel. Here he's getting ready to plant some lettuce.

Pick-up times:

  • 9-1 until January, then 10-1 through the winter

  • weekly deliveries for 4 more weeks, thru Nov. 4th
  • biweekly starting Nov. 11, an "off" week (during which time we'll be converting the website to accept online payments)

  • No change in anything to do with payment until Nov. 18th. Then, you will continue to order against your balance until it is used up, and then pay for each order online as you go.

This week's produce (new or back) ...

  • Greens: arugula, bok choi, cabbage, kale, micro-greens mix, mustard, pea shoots, tat soi, stir fry & bunched cooking greens mix.
  • Veggies: beans (Romano & dried), beets, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, corn, eggplant, fennel, garlic, kohlrabi, Lemongrass/curry paste pack, okra, onions, peppers (sweet & hot), potatoes, French Breakfast radishes, scallions, shallots, sorrel soup pack, sweet potatoes, tomatillos, tomatoes, winter squash & zucchini.
  • Herbs: chives, garlic chives, cutting celery, cilantro, dill, lemon balm, lemongrass, lovage, mints, parsley, rosemary, sage, sorrel, thyme & our mini-sampler.
  • Eggs: Yes, both chicken and duck
  • Cheese & butter: Both.
  • Preserves: Yes. Many selections.
  • Specialty fruit & tree crops: apples & pears (Asian & bosc).
  • Campfire wood: for your outdoor fire ring. Just a few boxes left.

[photo] Here are some of those winter root crops (turnips, radishes, beets) that have grown about a foot in the last week, thanks in part to our first rain in over a month.

Thanks for your support,
Randy, Chris & Sam at ...

[photo] We had a very foggy morning after the big rain, quite pretty actually as the sun came up behind the house.

The front yard looked very different with the clouds obscuring the mountains that ring our farm.
