When & Where

Placing your order ...

happens between 7 PM Tuesday & 7 AM Thursday (a 36-hour slot) on weeks we're open. We are open every week from Memorial day weekend through Thanksgiving; every-other-week in between those dates (our "Winter" schedule). We send out an email about 7 PM Tuesday letting you know we're open, and then a reminder on Wednesday. There's a sample of the "store open" version posted at the bottom of this page.

Picking up your order ...

happens between 9 AM – 1 PM, sharp -- no early or late pickups -- on Saturdays of scheduled weeks.

Scheduled weeks are ...

  • Warm half of the year (early June to Thanksgiving), weekly.
  • Cold half of the year (December to early June), every-other-Saturday.

CSA orders are picked up at one location only: our truck in Adams Morgan, DC. More specifically, on Columbia Road alongside the SunTrust Bank at the intersection of 18th & Columbia Road, where the farm trucks park by the farmers' market in the summertime. We're near the back of the truck line-up, usually right at the crosswalk coming over from Perry's Restaurant.

Adams Morgan CSA notes
Saturday, January 30, 2016

Hello all,

[photo] The snow on our barn roof was nicely sculpted when we awoke Sunday morning. More snow pictures at the bottom of the message, if you haven't seen enough already!

What's up?
We are staying busy -- never seems to be a problem -- and the paltry 18-20 inches of snow we got kept me from getting lazy over the weekend. I think I spent about 8 hours on the tractor opening up all our roads and lanes around the farmyard.

In addition to the snow, we had two nights of 0 degrees over the weekend, but fortunately we were back up to a sweltering 20 yesterday. Our own produce has slowed down considerably, but fortunately others we know still seem to be crankin' out the goodies, in spite of the weather. I always hesitate to keep more than minimal heat on in the greenhouse -- especially when it's zero outside! -- but during the snow I cranked it up to 50 degrees inside so that it would repel falling snow. Many a farmer I know has seen their greenhouse collapse under the weight of a heavy snow, and I don't need that.

Next week starts our winter conference season: two conferences in one week; one for "sustainable" ag and one for "standard" or "production" ag. I can learn something from both.

The bread & baked goodies vendor
told me he would be back this Saturday right across the sidewalk from our truck. Yay!

This week's produce line-up (new/back, sale)
I think we have a great line-up of produce this week, considering it's late January and we're covered with snow. Not to brag or anything. Just sayin'.

  • Greens: arugula, cabbage, chard, cress, baby kale, pea & sunflower shoots, spinach & and stir fry. Also head lettuce is back, Green Butterhead/Bibb.
  • Veggies: beets (2 kinds), carrots (2 kinds), celeriac, English hothouse cucumbers, garlic, Jerusalem artichokes, kohlrabi, onions, parsnips, potatoes (4 kinds), winter radishes (2 kinds), rutabagas, salsify, French shallots, sweet potatoes, turnips (2 kinds), roasted roots pack & winter squash (acorn & butternut).
  • Mushrooms: Criminis ("Baby Bellas")
  • Herbs: Cilantro, Italian parsley, rosemary, French sorrel & our sampler/mix.
  • Apples: Fuji, Granny Smith, Jonagold, Crispin, Pink Lady, mixed & seconds.

At the truck on Saturday: Apple cider, and a few other odds and ends, in case you forget something when you order.

The packing shed after plowing yesterday.

Cleaning off the roof of my truck was no fun task.

The roof of this side of the packing shed (new last April) certainly shed its snow easily!
